Cabin Ladies

While only one of my grandsons attended the Cabin Weekend, the other was able to enjoy our festivities after the fact , thanks to Debbie Beck's array of Fiesta crap...as she referred to it.
It took some time getting there ,but the weekend at the cabin happened. We were awaited by a fantastic spread, enough salmon and wine to feed an army. It was a feast to match Top Chef by any standard. The night proceeded as chocolate martinis were served and party games and karaoke commenced. Yikes! It was the beginning of anything goes weekend. What happens at the cabin stays at the cabin. No there were no strippers or hooking up. Just fun stories singing or yelping,OWWWE! dancing and laughing. Just when we thought that there would be not match to Friday night's festivities, we awoke to pancakes and quiche and mini muffins and fresh fruit. Pregnant Bri's concerns of not having any lunch on Saturday were thrown out the stately mammoth windows overlooking Lake Monroe. The icing on the cake, so to speak, just to add to the ambiance, it began to snow on Saturday. The perfect touch to our chalet weekend.

Debbie Beck lead our team on Fiesta night with all the doins to make us feel like we were on the cruise ship Antonio Banderas. It was a crazy mix of friends and family, and we all had our own reasons for attending. In the end, I was wondering was it too much? NOT!

Book Club Nite

I have just joined a book club which I really do enjoy. I like having a deadline otherwise I would not ever finish the dang thing. What does that tell you about me? Well, I think everyone around me knows that about me. I also enjoy discussing the books afterwards. You need to be prepared and really no one's views are dismissed. I have found though, that some people may have read some of the book, while others do not actually read the whole thing, cause they make their little comment from the first couple of chapters and then say nothing more. Kinda like Junior year in Mrs. Von Schulick's English class. Any how the book club is great but this months was at my house. I was fretting about this for weeks. Not that I do not like to entertain, it's just that some of these ladies I do not know very well at all. I have been to their homes, and have been absolutely blown away. So I was really trying to do a good job.
Starting with the dessert. Chocolate praline cake with sweet cream topping with dark chocolate shavings on top. Sounds good doesn't it? The freaking thing fell apart! I had to make two recipes of the sweet whipping cream topping just to keep it somewhat together.
We have had quite a bit of snow down here in beauteous Jasper, so the day of the meeting, I shoveled snow for thee hours. I do not know if I even made a dent. It was what it was. An hour before the ladies arrived, I ran out to purchase wine, valentine napkins, and grapes and cheese. I couldn't get over how friendly all the clerks were. Helpful and asking questions , very attentive. So much so, I thought something was up. Maybe my medication is really kicking in, and I view people much nicer now. Then I looked at myself in the mirror when I got home. I had forgotten that I had shoveled the driveway. I still had on my colorful blue, orange and tan boots. Boots, I might add that were Robby's when he was 10/11. One pant leg was tucked in one was not. I had on my green scrubs form being at work that day, and there was a fairly good amount of chocolate on my mouth from when I was putting together my crumbly cake. I looked like I was mentally handicapped. These people were being very sweet to me cause I looked like I was challenged. Or maybe homeless!
Well the evening went fine, and the cake was crumbly but the ladies were polite. Who cares. It's done, can't wait to go to someones else's house next month.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

Woke up this morning and behold, a new layer of snow on our driveway that Rob worked so hard on over the weekend. The walkway that was plowed clean, totally obliterated. And we down here in Jasper have not had it as bad as our North-East Ohio relatives or our central Indiana neighbors. It's gotten to me this week. I was supposed to go work out this morning with a friend. The wind was a-blowing and the snow was tumbling down, so I called her and said I wasn't coming. Now this gal is from Chicago. She wouldn't hear of it. "A little snow isn't gonna keep you from working out!" Well, yea it was. But this snow wasn't gonna keep me from my hair appointment at 1:00 pm. So I guess that was kinda lame. It's not that it was a freaking blizzard, for God's sake. I just wanted an excuse to not go to workout. So I went. She picked me up. The place is down the street from me, I really could have walked. So I am glad I did. Cause I watched the Biggest Looser tonight, and I felt like Joelle. I was looking for every excuse to not do something. I just needed someone to kick my butt and tell me I was going. My hair looks very good by the way. I'm glad I didn't miss that either.
