I Suck At Making Buckeyes

I'm getting ready for the big game. I'm talking Ohio state vs Iowa and it's here people this weekend. So I decided to make buckeyes, you know peanut butter thingys in chocolate. Well I don't know what I did wrong , but they aren't really the way they should look. They are kinda melty and messy and and awful. But they taste good, as Big Daddy had to have one even though they look like someone just made a big glob of peanut butter and chocolate. EEEE!

The last time I made buckeyes was for Christmas and with Debbie and Carolyn. I am sure there was alcohol involved, but not in the cookies. I seem to remember that my buckeyes were the size of meatballs.I tried very hard to keep the size similar to an actual buckeye, but I grew up in Youngstown and the meatball size is what I am more accustomed to. Instead of pitching these horrible looking things, I took the batch I made tonight to work with me hoping that the people there will eat them all up and not pay attention as to how bad they really look. Actually, I think if Robby and John come on Friday they won't care how funny these buckeyes look they will eat them no matter what. For our guests that this weekend, I am working on a more aesthetic batch as I speak adding adding more confectioners sugar, which I think was my problem with the last batch. We'll see....I hope I can do better. Oh well if not, you know what I was going for.

I am so excited.....This is our gathering for the year. Back in Richmond it was always Memorial Day.We had out of town guests on several Memorial days. One Year my family showed up. I never thought that would happen. All eight of us, spouses and My mother. It was cool. I'll take them when I can get them. So I am hoping for houseful this weekend, and I think we got it. Party at Mullally's = rain, no I mean monsoon. Yes, back in Richmond every time we would have a picnic it definitely would rain. As soon as we moved, and Carolyn or Debbie had the picnic....it was gorgeous. What the F? I'm not saying it ruined the party...NEVER! In fact it usually made the people really bond. I just find it funny that it stopped raining when moved.

So back to this weekend. It should be an absolute gala of friends and food, and oh yea football. I am always happiest when the house busy and there's lots of people coming and going. It only reminds me of our last year in Richmond, when football season just seem to never end. Iowa and Ohio State both had great seasons, we saw every game. I gained 10 pounds that season, with the munchies and the beer, who cares it was way fun. So if you are a Hawkeye fan or a Buckeye fan it doesn't matter to me it just means a great reason to be with your friends and create a memory that you embellish about in years to come.

Bill and Monica Tied the Knot in D.C.

No, not THAT Bill and Monica. My nephew Bill and his sweet Monica. We had a great time. The ceremony was very unconventional, but just perfect for them. We had lot's of family time. They have great friends and Monica's family is wonderful. Rob and I got some sightseeing done. We hadn't been in Washington for many years, so it brought back lots of memories.

All my sisters were there and even Jerry made the trip. My neices were lots of fun and a little crazy. We got to see some great football games on Saturday too. Eventhough my family was pretty upset about the ND game. Iloved every second of the whole weekend.

I am just so thankful that we have such a close family and we have shared so much in each other's lives, eventhough there are many miles between us , we have still maintained close relationships with each other. This year has been filled with so many beginnings. The Graduations, births and weddings remind me just how many blessings we have to be thankful for. No matter how much money you have, or how many material things you own, if you don't have good relationships, your very unhappy. We are totally blessed with great friends and family.

So next month , we have one more baby coming, and another wedding to celebrate. Isn't that great? I am so excited about both.

Abe is here!

Well Abe came on Tuesday August 29th.,so he was a tad bit early. He has ten fingers and ten toes. His hands and feet look very big in proprtion to his little 8lb. 3oz. body.I think he will definitely grow into his hands and feet like a little puppy grows into his paws. He is so alert, when he is awake. Abe looks all around and tries to take everything in. He seems to be eating well although Mommy and Daddy are better judges of that than I am. But it is so great to see this little fella and it's going to be so much fun watching him change , even in the next couple of weeks.

Brianne did a great job during labor. I am so proud of her. And Jake was at her side, being very attentive. We got to see the boy just minutes after he was born. He was already sucking his hand and trying to check out the room.I just feel like the 48 hours that Bri and the baby were in the hospital it felt like a week. Especially when you are awake most of those 48 hours, it really makes you feel like the days are much longer. That's all part of it. And this new little family will work out the details of eating ,sleeping and bathing. Lord knows the kid could change clothes every hour and still not run out of things to wear. Which can turn out to be very fortunate depending on how much clothes washing gets done between feedings and sleep.

The boy is the "splitting image of his father", in the words of a past coworker of mine. But sometimes, just sometimes when I look at him I see a tiny bit of Mullally in his smile. It's hard to say, cause his hair is sorta coming in and his eyes are kinda grey and his head is still shaping up. It will be fun to see him grow. He looks just like Abe Drlich. And that is one precious little baby.
